Content: 6/25/00 Obsenad: short piece written for the Senad mailing list. The Summer of 2000 First Annual Senad Snippet Challenge: write a snippet of *exactly* 200 words that portrays Jim and Blair as an already established couple but *TEN* years from now. This came out to 201. With thanks and apologies to Pet Fly, and proceeding under the assumption that forgiveness is easier to ask than permission.... "How’s the leg?" "Fine." "I can tell." "You asked. I answered." "You shouldnt have come along." "Who said it would be good for me to get out?" "I was wrong." "The end of the world as we know it." "Nobody loves a smart ass." "I love you." "Sit down." Jim moved slowly to the couch, unable to choke back a low grunt of discomfort. Blairs head turned sharply, and a moment later he knelt at Jims feet. "Drop em." Without protest, Jim unbuttoned his jeans, arched his back and slid them down. Gentle hands began smoothing liniment over the angry red scars. Jim winced and Blair did too, and eased the pressure of his fingers. "Im filing a civil suit against Mulrooney." "On what grounds? "Loss of conjugal rights." "Scars dont turn you on?" "Not that. But you know this means no more back of the couch thingie." "You underestimate me." "What goes around comes around, Jim." "Come around me and Ill give you a go around, Chief." "Promise?" "To my dying day." The hands on his knee froze, trembled, and lay still, framing the ugly scars. "Dont say that." "Had to. You should know it." "I do, Jim. I do." ~ 30 ~ ~ Return to "The Sentinel" Page ~
